Group Fitness

Goooooood morning!

Was my turn to lead the group fitness peeps at LivingWell today, so after much (unnecessary) anxiety and trepidation last night, I put together a 40-minute workout for the patrons to complete after their 20-minute warmup on the "cardio equipment".  I woke up at 5am WIDE AWAKE, but by the time I was needing to leave at 5:50, I was ready to crawl back into bed (of course).  Mornings!  Why are you so troubling for me?!!?

Why the angst last night?  Because 1) I haven't lead group exercise in close to a year, 2) when I did lead, it was yoga, 3) I knew my clients, and 4) lack of space/fear of imposing on other fitness members utilizing the gym space.  Oh, and I didn't really know how many people would be attending.  Or if they would like my workout.  Ahhh!  I'm much more inclined to work one-on-one with people to work with individual strengths/weaknesses, especially with form (technique).

I got it figured out and had a small rotation of partner exercises, followed by individual exercises, back to partner, and ended with individual (and stretching, for those who had a little extra time).  I think it went okay.  Should be able to get a better rhythm and harder workout once I get a better idea of who the people are and what they want/are capable of!  (They are a pretty tough crowd, strength-wise, for the record!)

Today's workout was mostly core and legs/hips:

Partners: Overhead Medicine Ball passes, Around the World Medicine Ball passes, Plie squats+ bicep curl/BOSU tricep 'walk' (partners, 30 seconds each direction/exercise, switch)
Individual: Kickboxing--front kicks, side kicks, back kicks (30 seconds each leg, switch legs); Side planks;
Back to Partners (same exercises)
Individual: Supermans, heel clicks, 'hockey skate warmup', leg lifts ("Jane Fondas"), plank, down dog
Stretches: Warrior I, Warrior II, Modified Triangle, Triangle, standing crossover hamstring stretch

They were a good crowd - did what I told them, didn't complain, hopefully they felt like they got a decent workout.  :-|  Was really nice to have an extra helper, a co-worker, who did all of the timing so that I didn't have to pay attention to that (because I totally forget, haha!).  *For those of you who have or will have me as a personal trainer some day, I often forget to count repetitions, as well - especially during the first few workouts of  a new routine, because I'm watching technique AND/OR (and more probably), am chatting.  Haha.

After a 10-minute bike warmup, I did some of the workout with the fitness peeps, and then did my own 20-minute upper-body workout afterward.  Yay!

*****On a totally different topic, I wanted to check to see if anyone has been able to link to other blogs that I follow?  I don't really know a whole lot about this techy biznass and I don't know how to check to see if those links are available for you to see?  Someone please let me know!  (There are a few people I know that I follow because they are HILARIOUS or insightful, or both--and a few blogs that I have found while procrastinating homework or housecleaning...)Thanks!!*****

  2. To help you out with your different topic: I had to go into the design screen, add a gadget called blog roll, and then add the blogs to the list to make them show up on my blog for others to see. :)
