Cabin Fever is real!

It’s that time of year when we are mostly indoors. Sometimes that means rain, other times bitter cold, snow and yes, even intense heat or work schedules can drive us indoors for days on end. Soon that cozy feeling leads to one of cabin fever. You want to get outside for a break but the climate, or workload, won’t cooperate.
“‘Cabin fever’ is a term that represents how a living being – human or otherwise – may begin to feel when isolated or confined indoors,” explains Nicole Guerton, owner of Dynamic Wellness LLC“The term is often used to describe restlessness or subdued mood folks experience when they live in extreme conditions (where it may actually be dangerously cold or hot outdoors).”
It can occur even when you limit your interpersonal or nature interaction due to illness, caring around-the-clock for a loved one, or working extra hours for weeks or months on a work project. And as busy career professionals you’ve probably experienced cabin fever from time to time working most of the day indoors, especially if natural light is limited.
“People and pets are impacted psychologically by the decreases in natural light, interpersonal social connection, and physical activity,” says Coach Nicole.
“Our brains are powerful and psychological stress impacts not only mental health but also physiology. As a well-being coach, I work with individuals and families (including my own!) to mitigate doldrums by brainstorming ideas to meet physiological needs and personal preferences.”
This begins with paying attention to why you’re feeling isolated and how you can include more natural, social, curative and inspirational approaches into your day.

Why THAT name?

I have had  inquiries about the name of my website (domain name) - and I thought taking a moment to explain the choice of the business name (Dynamic Wellness, LLC) and the importance of our awareness, education, and care of Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Dynamic: "change, activity, progress"

Wellness: "optimal health, mind body and spirit" :-)

Mind
Body
Spirit
A human mind arguably comprises both quantifiable brain ‘matter’ and the breadth of energy exchange and subsequent physiologic reactions.  How a person interprets information from the environment coupled with current brain chemistry sets in motion a chain reaction within the body.

What the mind believes the body receives; part of believing connects with experiences and education – another part of believing connects with the human spirit, an element of you that will not be ignored!
Your physical human body operates in much the same way as a machine: Proper fuel must be put in in order to do work; essential parts within must be functioning sufficiently in order to utilize the fuel.  Maintenance needs to be given regularly to prevent breakdown; when something does not feel or sound quite right, special tending may be needed.

Controlled by a combination of the brain and both the conscious and subconscious mind, the physiology of your being may have as much to do with your thought patterns and spirit as with nutrition, rest, and physical activity.
Whether explained by quantum physics as a particular ‘energy field’ or by philosophy as an unquantifiable aspect of human being, your spirit arises from the physical body, the conceptual mind, and a component of faith.

Although the human spirit defies the human brain’s capability to define, we believe that the ‘spirit’ element of you requires attention and training, as well!

Life is a matter of balance.

View from Here

Already today, many reasons to be thankful.
  • Waking up rested was gratitude marker #1!  After a late night and very sore back, feeling physically ready for the day was a blessing immediately this morning!
  • Peaking out the window, glorious sunshine spread over the lush, fresh-cut green grass - YIPPEE!!  A beautiful day!!
  • Getting my [instant] coffee ready, I was thankful that I a) had this fun mug from Caribou gifted to me by a dear friend, b) instant Starbucks mocha coffee when I don't have a coffee maker, c) with a splash of delicious peppermint mocha creamer added delight to what was already proving to be a splendid start to the day.
  • Something felt funny and I looked to my wrist to see a wristband and reflected on yesterday's fantastic day of pizza, wine, and Wii games with a friend during the rainstorm and live, outdoor music with great company when the weather cleared.
  • Here is a multifactorial blessing: a) sitting outside, b) in the morning sunshine, c) drinking my coffee and d) having some quiet time reading Scriptures,  I look down and e) my amazing/angelic/perfect/loyal dog is laying at my feet.

My view - made me think of God's view when we come to sit quietly at His 'feet'.

Gratitude is a practice that I want to continue to cultivate daily.  When I stop and take the time to look at what is around me right now, I cannot help but smile and feel my heart fill up.

Thankfulness continues . . .

  • I registered my business with the State of MN today.   Dynamic Wellness, LLC:  'Integrating Healthy Practices for Mind, Body, and Spirit.'  I am thankful for the support of people in my life, past and present, for the encouragement and constructive criticism and ethical advice - as well as the role models that I am blessed to have.
  • Calling my dad to wish him Happy Father's Day reminded me how much he has given to me and taught me.  I'm very thankful for my step-dad who been such an incredible blessing to my mom, sister, and me over the last 20 years.
  • And then my mind goes to how much is provided for me every second of every day by the ultimate Father.  My mind cannot wrap around all of the goodness.

Those who read this blog and know me, personally, know that I experience life's ups-and-downs just like anyone else and sometimes struggle.  No person is without contextual tragedy.  What I want people to remember about me is that in the end, I choose to be happy; that I choose to see the good.

Our perspectives create our worlds.  The same external 'happenings' will occur no matter how you respond; if you choose to look through a lens of gratitude, your experiences change dramatically.

I choose to look with open eyes, a heart of gratitude, and a mind of discernment

And the view from here is pretty spectacular.
