Greetings to whoever reads today's post!
I write this shortly after a jog/walk in the night-time hours (an attempt to keep moving OUTSIDE and avoid as much excess heat of the day as possible!). The dog and I did a 30-minute jog/walk (with 5 min warm up before and 5 min of stretching after, total 40 min . . .Not to be bogged down with details (do you KNOW me?!?!). The completion is the satisfying part. Yesterday, I made a goal to move with the dog today. I did it :)
My goal setting has been severely lacking the goal part. :-| Mostly, I've been pretty happy when I accept the invitation from someone else to get out and moving. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I've come to dislike exercise. As you may have read in the last post, my intrinsic motivation seems to have disappeared. Sure, I'd like to compete in another triathlon; sure, I'd like to complete <<notice the extra letter, "l">> a half-marathon; sure, I'd like to participate in a Mud Run or Tough Mudder. But where is the desire to TRAIN? Maybe I just got really overwhelmed with other stuff. Maybe my priorities have shifted. Unsure right now. Just glad that we got out to "git 'er done" tonight!
Speaking of night - this night-time exercise business is credited to my motha and my seester. I know that MY prime workout times used to be at other times of the day, and I know that NOW my prime workout times seem to coincide with the HOTTEST, MOST HUMID times of the gosh dang day! But the evening time (whether late afternoon or earlier nighttime) seems to workout okay for me. I have learned many "best time to exercise" sayings/study results over the years of school and work; however, I'm definitely a proponent of finding what works best for you. Not just the time of day the fits the neatest into the day planner. It may be that the evening works best because you are able to exert all the "leftover" energy of the day or relieve stress so that you can sleep soundly; conversely, working out at night may leave you too hyped-up for sleep and you find that morning routines or lunchtime routines really give you an energy burst that you need during the day. Of course, there are always other factors (kids, short lunch break, too stiff in morning, not enough energy after work) - sometimes it takes a while to really find out what works. Some days may be different than others. That brings in the whole "get a routine" concept into the picture, which is another topic. For now, just find time to move!!
