Third day's a Trial

GOOD MORNING!

I AM NOT YELLING AT YOU! I AM TRYING TO BE ENTHUSIASTIC AND CHIPPER ABOUT BEING AWAKE WHEN I'D RATHER BE SLEEEEEEEEEPING!!!!!!!

*yawn*

I apologize for the outburst.  I feel like writing this morning, right off the bat - perhaps because I woke up wanting to stay in bed and thinking about being accountable to my blog of exercise dragged me out of the comfort of the warm, snuggly sheets.

Oh, who am I kidding.  I had to pee, and so did my dog.  And then I was up.  ON, coffee machine.  Do it!

courtesy of Florida Goodwill!

After a quiet crunch of the honey bunches of oats and milk, I poured myself some java in my Goodwill-steal-of-a-deal IOWA STATE coffee mug (shout-out to the best sister in the world!), I added the equivalent amount of milk + cream (peppermint mocha, nuuuum) and sat down to check emails.

Lo and behold, someone from the TriGators wants to RUN with me today! WHOA!

Back up a second - actually, last night after class, I was asked by one of the veteran Tri'ers if I would join the swim practice on Friday.  I nearly peed my pants with excitement, but then remembered that my awesome mom and stepdad will be coming to Florida and I will be collecting them from the Orlando airport Friday and we will need to STUFF OUR FACES with some kind of delicacy (aka hopefully fresh fish!).  So, exit the swim idea.

Back to today - this lovely young lady has no idea what she may be in for; I responded, letting her know that I am big and SA-LOW, and that I will be trotting on and off for 20-30 minutes later this morning, with my dog, depending on how my body feels.  I invited her to join as her warm-up run before she actually goes out to do her training :-)  Stay tuned.  I shall report back either today or tomorrow!

Meanwhile -

*GET UP AND MOVE YOUR GROOVE THANG!*
Throughout the day, 10 minute increments of stretching (carefully), walking, shoveling snow - whatever - will get your heart pumping and blood circulating nutrients and oxygen!  Not to mention the psychological benefits of moving.  BODIES ARE MADE FOR MOTION!

*********

Okay - while I ice my tender feet, I must recount the latest adventure.  My dog and I just returned from what my mother dotingly refers to as "a trudge."  To say I ran would be an incredible exaggeration.  Yes, I know that is redundant.  Let me put it this way - it was all I could do to jog at LEAST as fast as I walk.

The Rundown (no pun intended): 5 minutes warmup walking, start 2-min interval of jog followed by 2-min interval walk, repeat (x10 = 40 minutes) which ends with the last walk, followed by stretching and now icing the footsies.  So, I ended up walking the majority of the time which is fine.  Kind of fartlek walking rather than fartlek training.  And no, fartlek does not mean THAT, sicko.

Oh, and the dog?  Well, she peed, then pooed (of course, being a responsible citizen I brought a baggie and picked it up and threw it away). . .and proceeded to pee 3 more times and poo one more time.  FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, ANIMAL!  YOU'RE SCREWING UP MY 2-MINUTE TIMINGS!  (No, actually, I wouldn't let her potty unless we were doing a walk.  I MIGHT be a type-A, but who's keeping track??)

Have a weights-date with a teammate at 5pm - first time at the student rec on campus - wish me luck!  Let's hope she isn't too embarrassed to be seen with me.

****

Weights - CHECK!  Upper body, some core, and lots of stretching with the foam roller (read OUCH!) --> Tight ITbands and calves!  Icing the feetsies again (trick I've been taught: fill plastic water bottles with tap water, freeze, and use as rollers).  Tomorrow. . .bike ride, hopefully!

Where: road, student rec
What: walk/jog; weights (upper body)
When: 11am and 5pm
With: dog; and wgts w/ TG Amelia!
Temp: 60 for outdoor part, about 98 in the gym (bleh!)
Sleep: 6
Body aches: 7 <--yoga made my shoulders and neck sore!
Feelings during: already made my feelings known about "the trudge".  Weights - it sure felt good to be in the gym, although lots of sweaty, stinky people in a small space- EW.  Thankful for Amelia and hopefuly about Tues 5pm weights!

  4. You go girl! :) I am proud of you! I am inspired. . . I got involved with the wellness program a few weeks ago and have been going to exercise classes (2/week) and had my fitness assessment/biometrics done today. You can probably imagine how inspiring that was! Gotta start somewhere right?! Miss you! Keep moving and I will too! Kerry Em
