I had the pleasure of attending the pre-conference workshop titled Bringing the Wisdom of the Whole into Coaching, lead by Linda A. Bark, PhD, RN, MCC, NC-BC [Bark Coaching Institute, Alameda, California]. Reminders, tools, and activities we participated in grounded me in my own humanness, stimulated ideas for working with clients, and inspired me to continue on my coaching path.
Day one of the conference was filled to capacity with presentations by William (Bill) D. Manahan, MD; Henry C. Emmons, MD; and a powerful performance by the Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater. My choices for afternoon sessions included, "The Art of Breathing: Transforming Your Life by Changing Your Breath"
(Laura A. Peterson, MA, BSN, RN), and "The Miracle of Mindful Awareness Meditation" (Doug McGill, BA). Finally, the day wrapped up with "Food as Medicine" (Katherine M. Zeratsky, RD, LD)
and "Top Ten Herbs and Supplements for Wellness" (Brent A. Bauer, MD).
Day two was as powerful for me as the first. The day began with "An Ayurvedic Definition of Wellness"
(Neil N. Patel, MD) and "Traditional Chinese Medicine and Wellness" (Amber E. Hammes, LAc). I stuck around for more "Energy Medicine" with Neil N. Patel, MD and followed that with "A Sound Approach: Music and Music Therapy" by Christina Wood, MA, MT-BC.
To end the conference with Self-Care Salon harpest Tami Briggs, MBA, CHP and Barbara Thune Schommer, RN, CHTP/I, could be described as a binding of the thread that had been so intricately woven through every session.
At this time, I have neither the attention span nor the energy to elaborate on these sessions. I hope in the near future I can reflect in detail on my experiences. In short, I am more empowered and grounded after attending; more assured of my current path and calling; and less fearful of unanticipated changes.
